This year my daughter started doing Ballet.
She absolutely loves it.
Ordered and got everything she needed... Got her all dressed up and took some photos...
The ballet shoes arrived with one piece of elastic and instructions to measure and self sow the elastic to the shoes. Saw a video or two of how to do it and NO BGGY! Started to measure and cut the elastic. Got the string through the needle and off we go...
Ow! Ow! Ow! Now I'm not a pro with sowing but I can do what I need to do. However, this was a challenge.
Did you know that the inside of a Ballet shoe is made of canvas material? You need to make sure you push the needle through without it puncturing the outside!
First I took too little of the canvas and the string pulled right through, tearing the peace of canvas I thought was small but big enough to support the string.
Ok, so we try again! This time with a little more of the canvas section. Eventually, after a few stitches, I managed to get the hang of it.
By the time I made my way around the one side of the elastic I had a few puncture holes on my fingers and underneath my nail. This canvas sure is stiff to push a needle through. I now had to sow the top part to the shoe and make sure that I don't catch the drawstring AND leave enough gap so the drawstring can still pull tight.
Right, so now my fingers are in pain from gripping the needle and pushing and pulling it through the canvas. One side is done, three more to go. Let's do this!
I thought I was doing well until my hands started to cramp! I still had an entire shoe left to do but I managed to finish up.
Well maybe it wasn't all such torture in the end BUT I hope I don't need to do that again really soon.
Am I the only Ballet Mommy who struggled with this? Tell me about your Ballet Mommy struggles?
